Unifrance Hysteria

Last night, MICMACS opened up the Unifrance Film Festival. We did the red carpet thing with screaming Jp Jeunet films shoving pens and photos in his face for signature. At least, the Japanese are organized. Each fan had a working pen with a photo of Jp or a publicity still of one of his films. The fans also wrote on a piece of paper their name so that Jp could dedicate the photo to them. I kind of felt like Alice in Wonderland who fell down the hole with a good jet lag buzz leading the way. Perfect way to spend an evening in Tokyo.

BAFTA NOMINEE COCKTAIL PARTY

We are back in London to attend the BAFTA Nominee Cocktail Party. I love going to the English parties just to watch what the women are wearing..They kind of mix and match a la Posh Spice meets Dynasty clan. I took out my camera to take photos of these beauties when a man politely asked me to put my camera away. That is when I saw PRECIOUS director, Lee Daniels walking our way. We spoke for a good 15 minutes. JP was director of the DEAUVILLE FILM FESTIVAL when we first saw PRECIOUS. I was blown away by his film but also a bit pissed off with some of the frame per frame rip off LEE borrowed from JP. All was forgiven when we spoke to Lee. He is the sweetest and most talented man. So go ahead, take what you want, Lee. It is OK with me.....PRECIOUS is my vote for BEST FILM for the OCSCARS!

Glasgow Film Festival

If this is Monday, this must be Glasgow... Yet another festival. The Scottish are a bit more theatrical and lyrical than the English. Like the Irish, there is music and drink everywhere. Makes me think of being in Eire...

A Life Time in Pictures, BAFTA

The BAFTA honored Jean Pierre with a Life Time in Pictures Award for his body of cinematic work. Jean Pierre spoke about his passion for the cinema and how he started to shoot his Super 8 home movies when he was young. It was exciting seeing the auditorium full of fans. There were film clips for each of Jean Pierre's films plus discussion after each sequence.

Dirty Socks and Art

After our share of drinking red Bordeaux wine, Jean Pierre and I took the Eurostar to London where Jp's film, MIC MACS was competing in the London International Film Festival.

I love the fact that London is only a hop, skip, and jump from Paris yet with its imposing architecture and natives that actually smile, it couldn't be more different from Paris.

We arrive a day early so that we could take advantage of checking out the Frieze Art Fair. I love roaming around the Frieze since it is like having a smorgasbord of the best art galleries worldwide all under the same roof. Every time I was attracted to an art piece, the gallery was based either in New York city or Los Angeles. Is that a coincidence or am I a byproduct of American culture that uses symbols and language that I am familiar with?
This time at Freize was different. I found the ambiance to be more pretentious and awkward. What do I know about art? Not much....at the end of our Frieze Art Fair tour, I looked on the floor in one of the galleries and saw a pair of dirty socks. I asked myself, "Is this an installation piece or did someone get rid of their smelly socks? Now, that's A-R-T

Deauville Festival Time!

I am still in Paris in an apartment full of dresses and high heels....trying to figure out what exactly I want to bring to the Deauville Film Festival where my husband is presiding over the film jury.
I went over to my friend's atelier on Rue du Mail. Martine Sitbon has been my favorite designer since she created my wedding dress back in 2001. It was an empire dress with silk and tulle decorated with antique sepia jewels embroidered around the collar. The problem with borrowing clothes from designers is that one must be a models size 2 or 6. Now, this really sucks for me since for some reason ( damn that cotes du Rhone) my breasts have gone up a tiny half size. Well, this slight mark up has banished me from wearing some of the most fashion forward dresses of her selection. I still manage to walk out the door with a stunning charcoal wool bustier dress with an shimmery metal effect and a peachy nude over- the- knee number with white cotton detail on the front neckline.
Yesterday, I was over at Rue Cambon where Chanel had a handful of dresses for me. I asked them to pick from their Pre or Cruise Collections since the collection always tend to be easier to wear.
One never gets the best choice at Chanel if one is not a star...So I knew I was pushing my luck there since Jp directed their last commercial. No chance. Plus, my breasts seem to be the problem, again! The lovely Chanel soldier said, 'Karl, does not like breasts' Oh, please what's a a real woman to do???
Then by late this morning, while trying to decided which dresses to take , I let the Internet help me with my choice. Wrong. Kind of scary, n'est pas? Maybe it will be better when I arrive?
